Essential Tips Before You Begin with Your PMP Journey
The only other day, one of the aspirants asked me what the most useful tips I would offer to someone who is pursuing the PMP Training and certification course with the dream of becoming a PMP master are? I replied without a second thought that “begin your PMP certification journey now”! No matter where you are in your career, it is never too early to prepare for the PMP certification to get your dream job.
Why do I give out this advice?
I must confess I made a mistake and considered getting the certification two years before starting my PMP journey. You must be wondering- what took so long to make up my mind about the certification? Well, I always thought I was not ready to take this big step in my life. I thought I couldn’t afford the time it requires for the PMP preparation, and I thought I have to sacrifice my on-job growth throughout the entire process.
Now, when I look back to that time- I find myself being a fool as I have wasted such a precious time wondering if I was ready for the role.
Why is it more difficult to get certified later?
The PMP exam is changing (again)
The new syllabus, new study guide, and new exam format. Do you know what it means? It means you will have plenty of things to panic about, and there is absolutely no one to guide you through it. Therefore, you should prepare and take the certification exam before the change settles down. Doing this will allow you to learn from the experience of early exam takers, and necessary resources are more readily available at the time.
The PMI- who is the governing body of the certification was about to roll down the major change in July 2020 but due to the pandemic, they pushed down the change to 2nd January 2021. This means aspirants still have enough time to prepare and get certified before it gets too late. Plus, the more you will delay, the harder it will become to pass the exam.
The exam fee is expected to increase.
Another headache you have to face while postponing the PMP certification PMI is considering increasing the exam fee by 25-80% after the introduction of the new version/syllabus in January 2021. So, if you want to save some bucks when getting certified, then I will advise you to do it now.
The training courses are getting more expensive
According to the survey and the relevant market research, the increase in PMP training and certification course is 10% or above year by year as a result of inflation and new resources being added in the process. Hence, it will be more expensive to get certified later.
You are getting burdened by more and more responsibilities
As people progress in their careers, you are tasked with more and more responsibilities that will make finding the time to study for PMP certification more challenging. You may also be planning about getting married and having children that will put more responsibilities on your shoulders. You will be obliged to spend more time at your job or with your family. And this is the phase I have gone through, and that’s why I decided to take the online project management professional training course rather than joining a traditional classroom. It will be harder to get time to prepare for PMP certification.
Begin Your PMP certification journey today
After going through the above reasons, most of the aspirants would agree that the most crucial obstacle to PMP certification is- FEAR. Fear that it is early to go for PMP certification fears they will not take the exam, fear it is too expensive to get certified.
All of them are genuine worries, but you need to understand changes are hard; new lessons are difficult, and the most challenging part is to initiate the change, but once you will go past that phase, you will find more opportunities to grow.
Fill the PMP Exam Form
As mentioned earlier, finding things about PMP is not enough if you are committed to attaining your PMP certification, then you have to take action. And the best way to do it is by filling the PMP exam application form. You can visit the official website of PMI and create a free account and start with your PMP exam form.
PMP exam- preparation is the key
What was the last time when you wrote the academic exam? Well, PMP is far different than any of your previous academic exams. First of all, the duration of the exam is 4 hours, and the exam contains 200 multiple-choice questions. The questions are quite lengthy and challenging to answer without any previous preparation. I believe the best way to prepare for the PMP exam without sacrificing your on-job growth is by taking an online PMP training and certification course.
The reason why I am even suggesting it in the first place is that the online courses offer flexibility, and you can learn at your own pace. You can study for 6-8 weeks and take 1-2 weeks leaves before the exam to prepare full time.
Moreover, if you need any further assistance to start your PMP journey, then you can always knock on the door of ProICT Training. For more details, please visit the website.
