FAQs related to PMP Exam
What are the requirements for this certification in terms of experience?
Well if you want to check whether you are eligible for this exam then you must meet any of the requirement as mentioned below:
- Someone who has a Bachelor’s degree or global equivalent with three years/4,500 hours non-overlapping project management experience in leading and directing project tasks.
- Otherwise High school diploma, associate’s degree or global equivalent and minimum of five years/7,500 hours non-overlapping experience in handling projects related tasks.
In both conditions, having 35 contact hours of formal PMP Training is a must for aspirants.
What does this non-overlapping experience requirement actually mean?
In the above question, you have read a term non-overlapping experience in handling projects. So, what does “non-overlapping” experience mean?
To answer this question, let’s understand it with a reverse situation related to overlapping experience. For instance, you have worked on two projects in 2013. Project A ran from Jan’13 to Jun’13 – 6 months, and Project B ran from Apr’13 to Dec’13 – 9 months. It simply shows that both the projects are overlapping for 3 months. So, the experience of these 3 months is counted as 3 months, and not the 6 months. Therefore, your total unique non-overlapping experience for both the projects would be considered is 12 (3 + 3 + 6) months, not 15 (6 + 9) months.
How much time will be given to me for the PMP Exam?
The exam duration for the computer-based examination is four hours. Apart from this the candidate will get 15 minutes time for the examination which is preceded by a tutorial and followed by a survey.
Pro Tip: Exam takers usually use the 15-minute survey, which precedes the exam, to do brain dump of formulas, important terms, or anything else they want to get off their head.
Is 4 Hours Enough to answer 200 Questions?
Yes it is, Four hours duration is more than enough to answer 200 questions on the PMP Exam. If we calculate the time for each question then you have 1:12 min to attend each question. Since, all questions are multiple choice questions, it usually takes less than a minute to answer the questions. Most people complete their first pass of all 200 questions within 3 hours, and the remaining time can be spent on reviewing the marked questions.
Tip: It is suggested not to spend more than a minute on any question initially. Mark all wordy questions for review and answer them later once you complete your first pass.
