Prince2 Vs. PMP: The Battle of Choosing the Right Career Booster
Katherine Whitehorn once said, “Find out what you like doing best and get someone pay you for doing it.”
Project management professional (PMP) has been one of the most lucrative career certifications for the last decade. After all, who doesn’t want to travel, handle a team, get acknowledged and have a good job with a decent salary? Although we all want to enjoy the powers that come with the positions yet, it takes more than just ‘liking’ to become a certified project manager.
According to the recent survey, in 2019 around 8.7 million job applications of project managers across the globe went unfilled. This indicates the serious scarcity of the professional project managers which is expected to grow further and reach 87 million by 2027. What you need to understand here is that opportunities for the project managers are blooming despite the industry. So, if you are an aspiring project manager then attaining the right PMP Certification Training Course can be definitive for your career in the next few years.
Why you should pursue the PMP Certification Training Course?
Do you know that certified people get paid more than non-certified ones? Well, it is only me saying this but the PMI report, 2018 conveyed the same thing. The report highlighted that “72% of PMO feel that certification is very relevant for the mid-career project managers.” The project management certification you would achieve will not only give you global exposure but also serve as proof that you have the knowledge and skills required to take over the role of the project manager. In short, it can be your key to new career opportunities in the market.
Now, when you have finally made up your mind to get the PMP certification the most common certifications you would come across are; PMP (project management professional) certification and PRINCE2 ((Projects IN Controlled Environments) but how would you decide which one is the best for you and your career? To know which one is going to fulfill your needs, you need to understand a bit more about both certifications.

What is PRINCE2?
PRINCE2 is the process-based methodology curated for corporate projects. As a global certification, the PRINCE2 integrate some of the known practiced IT frameworks including the famous “ITIL” which makes it an ideal methodology for the technical-driven environments. That’s the particular reason why organizations that often embed the technology with the new IT services often go for the PRINCE2 professionals for their projects.

The PRINCE2 certification is divided into three main certifications: –

Out of these three levels of PRINCE2 certifications foundation and practitioner are the widely pursued certifications.

Career prospect
A career in project management is highly promising. According to the recent survey, project management job opportunities are likely to grow further in the next few years. However, along with the increasing job prospects, there are many challenges that are yet to be addressed. The organizations have started to give more priority to the project management certification, certified project managers are going to benefit in the long run.
Depending upon the region, the salary of both PMP and PRINCE2 professionals differs from one place to another. As per the survey conducted in the UK, US and India, the salary of PMP professionals are little more in comparison to PRINCE2 professionals for many project management roles. But a slight difference doesn’t affect the popularity of these certifications. They are still valued and preferred by global organizations.

PMP
The PMP certification follows the computer-based exam where candidates need to answer 200 multiple-choice questions within a timeline of 4 hours. There is no negative marking for this certification.
PRINCE2
The PRINCE2 Foundation is also the computer-based examination where candidates are required to answer 60 multiple-choice questions within a timeline of 60 minutes. In the end, we believe that both are valuable to those who are willing to make their career in the project management domain. However, they are always preferred over any other project management certification. At one side, PMP is the knowledge-based certification while the other side PRINCE2 is the methodology based certification associating the best practices in the project management.
